This assignment was intended to evaluate our mastery of writing and the english language prior to our enrollment in the class. Looking back on this piece was a challenge because it really shows just how much progress I have made as a writer since this assignment. Since this piece I have made substantial progress with regards to planning my essay, elaborating on general points, and time management in timed writing situations. American Dream Wordle The underlying theme of all the work we have done this year has been "The American Dream", but what exactly is the American Dream? This assignment allowed us to take a creative approach to this question as we outlined what the "American Dream" meant to us. Along with my visual representation of "The American Dream", I also included a stylized quote by James Truslow Adams detailing the true American dream. I felt that by including this quote I could show a quintessential interpretation of "The American Dream". Collage de Michael The purpose of the Collage was to help us respond to a college essay by mapping out who we are. The focus of my collage was the three defining moments in my life so far and the degree to which they have shaped me as an individual. Choosing three defining events in my life was actually quite difficult, but when all was said and done I really enjoyed the way this project came together. The assignment pushed me to honestly evaluate who I am and who do I want to be. I found this personal reflection greatly aided me during the college essay process. College Essay This essay was our first real exposure to the college essay. it was used as both a lesson in how to write a college essay, as well as a workshop in which we would each create a college essay fit for the college application, and thus giving us an upper hand in the future of college applications. I enjoyed this assignment because of the length. Because this assignment was spread out over such a long period of time and we put so much work into our revision and peer review, the growth and development of my writing was very apparent. I hope to use this Essay in the future. AP Rhetorical Analysis I chose to include this piece because to me it is the quintessential rhetorical analysis. The planets must have alligned when I read Meena Alexander's"Fault lines"; I found so much depth and character in this piece. It was one of the only assignments this year that I just didn't want to put down. It was really exciting to come back to it with this portfolio. AP Synthesis I will be honest, I hate synthesis essays. With time management being my greatest difficulty in writing, the quick and in-depth grouping and organization employed in a proper synthesis essay is a real task. But the more we wrote and wrote, I began to hate them less and less. Even though I didn't finish this piece (like I said, time management) it was still a fun prompt and it didn't kill me to write it. AP Argumentative Argumentative pieces are always fun. I mean, who doesn't like to prove a point? Of all of the practice AP essays we completed throughout the year, Argumentative prompts were by far the most entertaining. It is a great feeling when they feel less like writing an essay and more like holding a conversation. Writing Philosophy This is a cullmination of all of my thoughts and feelings towards writing and language. It chronicles my growth as a writer over the course of the year. Wildcard This is a piece of metafiction. It was just a fun expression of my imagination. I hope you enjoy it. |
