The following is a short excerpt from my first timed AP Argumentative prompt.
Charity should not spawn from greed and the incentive of personal gain. It should be altruistic and selfless. The use of educational compensation as motivation for charity is promoting a skewed and unethical viewpoint of what should be a selfless act. By doing so, the school administration has inadvertently placed an unnecessary amount of stress on to their students. Students whom desire educational success will surely feel obligated to perform charitable acts for the sole purpose of recieving some form of personal compensation. This is not only placing students in an uncomfortable position, but also training them to expect some form of personal gain in response for charitable actions. It becomes less about helping another individual, and more about the reward that follows...
